Die Schweiz ist produktiver, aber warum?
A new Microsoft study says Swiss AI users outperform the rest of the world on productivity. Proud Swiss moment, but I can't understand how.
The study surveyed around 20,000 AI users across 10 countries:
65% of Swiss AI users say they now produce work they couldn't have produced a year ago, compared to 58% globally.
Among organizations that have systematically embedded AI into workflows, that number rises to 83% in Switzerland.
And 84% of Swiss AI users treat AI output as a starting point, not a final answer.
But the study states the numbers without explaining what Switzerland actually does differently.
Do Swiss workers have better access to data? More money? Faster decisions? What is it?
The differentiation is clearly on the country level, but the study does not say what drives it.
The number that I find more honest is the one about leadership:
Only 24% of Swiss AI users say their leadership is clearly and consistently aligned on AI.
What does that even mean?
In my experience from talking to companies, the real number of leadership teams that genuinely know what they are doing with AI does not come close to 24%.
The study says Switzerland's AI advantage will only translate into lasting competitive impact if organizations close the leadership gap.
That might be true.
But the more interesting question the study does not answer is what Switzerland is doing differently in the first place.
I genuinely do not know. And apparently neither does the study.
